Amy Elizabeth Norton Carey, 94, of Marshall, formerly of Macon, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2008, at Westport Estates in Marshall.
Funeral services will be Monday, Dec. 1, 2008, at 10 a.m. at Greening-Eagan-Hayes Funeral Home in Macon, with Dave Huck officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in Macon. Visitation will be Sunday, Nov. 30, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home in Macon. The family suggests memorials to Macon United Methodist Church.
She was born July 30, 1914, in Macon, the daughter of Guy L. and Belle (Morris) Norton. She graduated from Macon High School and attended Central Methodist College in Fayette for one year. On Aug. 20, 1933, in Columbia, she was united in marriage to George Jonathan Carey. She taught in a rural Macon County school for one year, and then, after marriage, became a homemaker. She was a member of Macon United Methodist Church, Anti-Rust Club, Daughters of the American Revolution and a 50-year member and past matron of Order of Eastern Star.
She is survived by two daughters, Suzann Martin of Tulsa, Okla., and Mary Lou Porter and her husband, Ronnie, of Marshall; four grandchildren, George Porter and his wife, Michelle, of Marshall, Guy Porter and wife, Corey, of Nevada, Dan Martin and wife, Elizabeth, of Tulsa and Carey Murphy and her husband, Darren, of Grayslake, Ill.; and six great-grandchildren, Jared and Collin Porter, Katie and Brandon Murphy and Sarah and Roby Martin.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, George, on Feb. 8, 2004; and one brother, Ben Norton.
