Alfred Preston Conner, 87, of Thornton, Colo., formerly of Saline County, died Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2008, in Westminster, Colo.

Graveside services with military rites will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2008, at Union Cemetery near Marshall, with William W. Harlow officiating. Memorials may be made to Union Baptist Church in care of Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home in Marshall. Friends may sign the online register book at www.campbell-lewis.com.

Born June 15, 1921, in Malta Bend, he was the son of the late William Conner and Nancy Belle Minor Conner. On Jan. 12, 1948, he married Winifred McQuade, who preceded him in death on June 12, 2001. On Nov. 16, 2003, he married Rene Bennett Firebaugh, who survives of the home. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service and was a U.S. Army/Air Corps veteran of World War II.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his three children, Nancy Moore of Centennial, Colo., Catherine Frazier of Livingston, Mont., and Nelson Conner of Denver, Colo.; one stepson, Ronald K. Firebaugh of Denver; four grandchildren; one brother, Robert "Pee Wee" Conner of rural Marshall; and several nieces and nephews.
