Gladys Marie Brucks, 81, of Gilliam, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2008, at St. Joseph Hospital in Kansas City.
A funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 31, 2008, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Glasgow, with Fr. Mike Penn officiating. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 30, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. at Friemonth-Freese Funeral Home in Glasgow. Burial will be in All Saints Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to St. Mary's School or Glasgow Senior Center.
She was born Jan. 26, 1927, in Aholt, to George W. and Mary Tebbe Himmelberg. She attended Aholt School. She married Arnold B. Brucks Oct. 26, 1948, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Aholt. He preceded her in death Oct. 8, 2002. She was a faithful member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Glasgow, where she often quilted and enjoyed singing with other members of the church. She loved being with her family and taking trips with them in which she always kept a journal of the adventure. She was also a member of the Legion Auxiliary.
Survivors include her four children, Melvin Brucks and his wife, Kim, of Columbia, Bernard and his wife, Karen, of Grandview, Mary Lank and her husband, Tom, of Nixa and Theresa Brucks of Kansas City; seven grandchildren, Sarah, Michael, Matthew, Stephanie, Haley, David and Max; two brothers, George Himmelberg of Glasgow and Albert Himmelberg of Columbia; and one sister, Viola Hagedorn of Columbia.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Arnold D. Brucks; three brothers; and two sisters.
