Violet Marie Bloss, 78, of Richmond, died Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2008, at her home in Richmond.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Nov. 1, 2008, at 2 p.m. at Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond. Visitation will be Saturday, Nov. 1, from 1 to 2 p.m. at Thurman Funeral Home. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery in Sumner. Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond is in charge of the arrangements. The family suggests memorial contributions be made either to the family's choice or to Cancer Action in Independence.
She was born Jan. 23, 1930, in Missouri City, to Arthur and Nannie (Hughes) Covey. She married Charles Bloss of Sumner on Jan. 4, 1945; he preceded her in death on Aug. 20, 1994. She was a homemaker. She was of the Christian faith. She had lived in Lexington before moving to Richmond in 1995.
Survivors include one son, Don Bloss and his wife, Kathy, of St. Joseph; two daughters, Charlotte Markley and her husband, Alvin Lee, of Dover Ginger Culver of Marshall; two brothers, Hubert M. Covey and his wife, Jean, of San Bernardino, Calif., and Arthur Covey and his wife, Sharron, of Bonner Springs, Kan.; one sister, Peggy Sturgeon of Richmond; 18 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and one son-in-law, Dwight Daller of Fredricktown.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Ronnie Bloss; one daughter, Janice Daller; three brothers, Arvel Covey, Billy Covey and Charles Allen Covey; three sisters, Hazel Houston, Catherine Griffin and Dorothy Harshner; and one son-in-law, Jim Culver.
