Luetta Doris Vardiman, 88, of rural Marshall, died Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2008, at her home.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 31, 2008, at Campbell-Lewis Chapel in Marshall, with Rev. Randy Shannon and William W. Harlow officiating. Visitation will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Ridge Park Cemetery in Marshall. Memorials may be made to Marshall Cumberland Presbyterian Church, Saline County Composite Squadron-Civil Air Patrol or Fitzgibbon-Mary Montgomery Hospice. Born Jan. 9, 1920, in Pettis County, she was the daughter of the late William R. Ballard and Rosina Butterwick Ballard. On Aug. 24, 1939, she married John W. Vardiman, who preceded her in death on July 13, 1984. She had lived in Saline County most of her life and was a member of Marshall Cumberland Presbyterian Church. She was a 20-year member of Saline County Composite Squadron-Civil Air Patrol, where she was ranked as lieutenant colonel.
Survivors include two sons, John William "Bill" Vardiman and his wife, Billie, of rural Marshall and Charles Edman "Chuck" Vardiman and his wife, Jane "Jeb," of Fair Grove; one daughter, Mary Towns of San Jose, Calif.; three grandchildren, Johnene Vardiman, Phillip Vardiman and Sarah Miser; and two great-granddaughters, Rylie and Hailey Vardiman.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one brother, John Ballard; two grandsons; and one great-grandson.
