John A. Dennis Jr., 91, of Marshall, died Sunday, Oct. 26, 2008, at Missouri Veterans Home in Warrensburg.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 30, 2008, at Campbell-Lewis Chapel in Marshall, with William W. Harlow officiating. Visitation will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial with military rites will be in Ridge Park Cemetery in Marshall. Memorials may be made to Blue Lick Cemetery. Born July 2, 1917, in Blue Lick, he was the son of the late John Austin Dennis and Lena Jewell Wyatt Dennis. He was married to Susie Belle Dye and Winifred Louise McCarty, who both preceded him in death. He had lived in Saline County most of his life and was a member of First Baptist Church. He was a farmer and then joined the U.S. Army Air Corps, serving during World War II. After returning from the war, he worked at Marshall Post Office for 26 years and served as a city councilman. After retiring from the post office, he was employed at Saline County Courthouse. He was a member of American Legion Post 191, Saline Coin Club and had served on the Blue Lick Cemetery Board.
Survivors include one son, Romaine Dennis and his wife, Deloris, of West Line; one great-nephew, Ricky Ballew, who was raised in the home, and his wife, Barbara, of Gilliam; two grandsons, Chris Dennis and his wife, Diane, and Keith Dennis and his wife, Wendy; five great-grandchildren; one brother, Wayne Dennis of the state of Ohio; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wives, he was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters.
