Nettie E. "Bess" Jones, 100, of Slater, died Monday, Oct. 27, 2008, at Fitzgibbon Hospital in Marshall.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Oct. 30, 2008, at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Slater, with Rev. Robert Sisney officiating. Burial will be in Slater City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the church. Memorials are suggested to Big Bend Retreat or First Baptist Church in care of Weiker Funeral Home in Slater.
Born June 25, 1908, in Saline County, she was the daughter of the late George W. and Ernie Jeter Hains. On June 1, 1929, in Slater, she married Aryl Hill "Brud" Jones, who preceded her in death Oct. 3, 1976. She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church in Slater and its Willing Workers Sunday School class. She had taught elementary Sunday School classes in the past. She had been a resident of Big Bend Retreat the past four years.
She is survived by two sons, Howard H. Jones and his wife, Mary Vale, of rural Slater and David L. Jones and his wife, Margaret, of Slater; one granddaughter, Michelle Jolliff and her husband, Jaon; one great-grandson, Blake Smith; three step-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Wilbur Hains and George Warren Hains, and two sisters, Norene Martin and Lucille Reidenbach.
