Frances H. Smith, 86, of Slater, died Saturday, Oct. 11, 2008, at Boone Hospital Center in Columbia.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Oct. 16, 2008, at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Slater. Fr. Michael Penn will officiate. Burial will be in Slater City Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Kirk Wales, Travis Peel, Cameron Smith, Derrick Kirby, Levi Page, Malcolm Smith, Corbin Fisher and Nick Smith. Honorary pallbearers will be Shane Smith, Mark Thomas, Clint Page, Andrew Smith, Clarence Hager, Stan Wales and Scott Wales. Visitation will be from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the church, followed by a recitation of the rosary at 7:30 p.m. and a prayer service at 8 p.m. Memorials are suggested to St. Joseph Catholic Church Altar and Rosary Society in care of Weiker Funeral Home.
Born Oct. 26, 1921, in Eudora, Kan., she was the daughter of the late George and Antonia Madl Bichelmeyer. On. Aug. 3, 1937, in Eudora, she married David O. Smith, who preceded her in death on July 23, 1980. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Slater and the church's Altar and Rosary Society. She and her late husband owned and operated Smith Food Bank in Slater from 1955 until her retirement in 1981.
She is survived by three sons, Greg Smith of Slater, Mike Smith of Kansas City and Marty Smith of Jamestown; four daughters, Alice Keller of Cullman, Ala., Mary Helen Kirby of Slater and Toni Page and Nancy Fisher, both of Springfield; 26 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and a special friend, Clarence Hager of Laurie.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Barbara Singer; five sisters; and four brothers.
