Friday, October 10, 2008

Gina A. Ardito, 25, of Raytown, has been charged with the class D felony of leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident in connection with an incident that occurred in the late evening hours of Tuesday, Oct. 7, in Marshall.

According to the probable cause statement filed in the case, Ardito was party to an accident that caused more than $1,000 in damage to a vehicle at or near the 1600 block of West College Avenue, and left the scene of the accident.

She was later apprehended by officers of the Marshall Police Department. According to the incident report, Ardito did not have insurance on the vehicle and was driving on an expired license. She was released on a $4,000 bond.

If convicted of the charges against her, Ardito faces up to four years in Missouri Department of Corrections, or up to one year in Saline County Justice Facility and/or up to a $5,000 fine. Arraignment is scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 30, in Division 6 court.

Hmmmm, and you wonder why honest tax paying citizens gripe. I wouldn't think of not having insurance on my vehicle, let alone run from an accident. I guess I just have a conscious because the fear of getting caught driving with an expired license would eat at me. I guess it all depends where you come from. There should be stipulations where if insurance is dropped on a vehicle by any insurance company, it should be reported. Perhaps this is an issue to bring up in our Missouri legislation.
