Mary Baker Berlekamp, 83, of Slater, died Saturday, Oct. 4, 2008, at Mar-Saline Manor Care Center in Marshall.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2008, at 11 a.m. at Weiker Funeral Home in Slater. Rev. David L. Duncan will officiate. Bethany Weiker, organist, will play "In the Garden," "Just A Closer Walk With Thee" and "The Old Rugged Cross." Burial will be in Ridge Park Cemetery in Marshall. Pallbearers will be Lynn Sullivan, Kyle Baker, Eric Baker, Steven Beeler, Bill Erickson and John Erickson. Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Slater Senior Center.
Born Feb. 27, 1925, in Miami, she was the daughter of the late Bennie A. and Helen Paschal Sullivan. On Feb. 28, 1942, in Marshall, she married Amos H. Baker, who preceded her in death on Jan. 11, 1975. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Slater. She operated Mary's Café in Slater in the 1950s, then worked at F.M. Stampers in Marshall and Town and Country Shoe Factory in Slater. She retired from Marshall Habilitation Center as DA III after 22 years of service.
She is survived by two sons, Howard "Butch" Baker of Marshall and Wesley Baker of Slater; one daughter, Carolyn Burton of Bastrop, Texas; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mildred "Sue" Hager of Warsaw.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Helen Ann Beeler; two brothers, Albert Sullivan and James Sullivan; and her second husband, Robert Berlekamp.
