The magazine features the stories of people who go out of their way to create new and exciting markets to help the undeserved communities of the developing world.
The library will focus the grant award at helping to promote dialogue on a local level, bringing the local community and the college campus together at two separate events, which are free and open to the public.
Funding for the program will be provided by the PBS Foundation through a grant from the Skoll Foundation.
"Getting Children off the Streets" will be a film screening and discussion about Social Entrepreneurship to be held on Tuesday, Oct. 7, at 7 p.m. at the R. Wilson Brown Room in the Ferguson Center. Tammy Harrelson, MVC instructor of Human Services will moderate.
In conjunction with the Lighthouse Shelter, an "In Their Shoes" speaker's forum will be held Tuesday, Oct. 14, at 7 p.m. in the Eckilson-Mabee Theatre.
The presentation will be held to promote National Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Everyone is encouraged to bring a donation of canned food to the forum.
The program goals of the Frontline/World Social Entrepreneurs are: to provide learning opportunities on international and domestic social problems; to recognize and encourage advancements in the area of social entrepreneurship; to promote local social entrepreneurship by engaging local non-profits, business and government leaders; to encourage our future leaders to make a difference in their community; and to inspire local high school and college students, as well as local business leaders to seek out and create social entrepreneurship opportunities.
