Ora C. Ballenger, 74, of Edwards, a former Kansas City resident, died Sunday, Oct. 5, 2008, at his home.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2008, at Sweeney-Reser-Wills Funeral Home in Marshall. Visitation will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
He was born July 2, 1934, in Sweet Springs, the son of the late Ora F. Ballenger and Gertrude Saylor Ballenger. On Aug. 26, 1955, in Marshall, he married Patty S. Miller, who survives of the home. He and his wife lived in the Marshall, Alma and Corder areas before moving to the greater metropolitan Kansas City area. They had lived in the Martin City area from 1980 to 1996, at which time they moved to the Lake of the Ozarks after retirement. He had been a heavy equipment operator for many years and had managed several sanitary landfills before his retirement. He had served in the U.S. Air Force.
In addition to his wife, survivors include three sons, Rick Ballenger of Kansas City, Randy Ballenger and his wife, Cindy, of Harrisonville and Ron Ballenger and his wife, Callie, of Raytown; two daughters, Gina Boyer of Potwin, Kan., and Rhonda Potts and her husband, Geoff, of Raytown; five brothers, Melvin Ballenger and Kenneth Ballenger, both of Marshall, Vernon Ballenger of Nevada, Howard Ballenger of Miami and Larry Ballenger of Slater; two sisters, Erma Evans of Mt. Leonard and Marilyn Jenkins of Marshall; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
In addition to his parents, three brothers and two sisters preceded him in death.
