Ralph L. Poffinberger

Ralph L. Poffinberger, 87, died Saturday, Sept. 20, 2008, in Louisville, Ky. A memorial service will be held at Fort Logan National Cemetery.

Born May 13, 1921, in Marshall, he served in the U.S. Army Air Forces 450th Bomb Group stationed in Italy during World War II. His bomber was shot down during a raid on the Ploesti oil refinery and he was a prisoner of war before being liberated by Allied Forces. He received the Distinguished Flying Cross for his service. He met Docia T. Fitzsimmons in Marshall and they married in 1947. They moved with their two daughters to Aurora, Colo. in 1963, where he worked as a barber. Later, they moved to Loveland, Colo. He was active in the Elks Club and Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Docia.

He is survived by his two daughters, Edith Savage of Windsor, Colo., and Diane Hancock of Louisville, Ky.
