County commission looks at health insurance proposals

Wednesday, October 1, 2008

At their regular meeting Wednesday, Oct. 1, Saline County Commissioners reported they have received bids for health insurance coverage for county employees from several companies, including Leimkuehler Insurance, Naught Naught Agency, George J. Meusckhke Agency and Farm Bureau, among others.

Commissioner Norvelle "Brownie" Brown said the commission was required to notify their current carrier, Mercy Health, by Oct. 1 if they intended to seek other coverage.

Brown said Mercy Health had expected to increase the cost of health coverage for the county by $72 per person per month, an increase of more than $53,000, and that although Mercy wanted a two-year contract for their coverage, would only guarantee a price for one year.

The current insurance plan expires Dec. 31.

The next regular commission meeting will be held Thursday, Oct. 2, in the commission office on the lower level of the courthouse.
