Gloria Dean Bonen, 82, of Blackwater, died Friday morning, Sept 26, 2008, at her home.
A prayer service for the deceased was held at 6 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 28, 2008, with visitation afterward until 8 p.m. at Davis Funeral Chapel in Boonville. The Mass of Christian Burial was held at SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Boonville at 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 29, with Fr. Bob Duesdieker officiating. Burial followed at Old Lamine Cemetery, with Troy Kateman, Chris Jones, Chad Wolfe, Jay Rodieck, Donald Esser, Mike Esser and Steve Schuster serving as pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that memorials be directed to the Howard County Hospice or the Blackwater Garden Club. She was born in Cooper County, March 15, 1926, the daughter of Frank Jacob Esser and Rowena Belle Widel Esser. She married Herman Bonen in May 1970; he preceded her in death in August of the same year. She was a member of Daylily Society in Columbia and a long-time member of Arrow Rock Craft Club, as well as the Blackwater beautification project. She was a lifetime member of SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church.
She is survived by three daughters, Donna Kateman of Nelson, Monna Schuster of Blackwater and Libby Jones of Columbia; one son, Donnie Bonen of Pilot Grove; one brother, Franklyn Esser of Blackwater; four stepchildren, Dorothy Imhoff, Mary Jane Fahrendorf and Kenny Bonen of Blackwater and Judy Acton of Hallsville; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
