According to Fitzgibbon President & CEO Ron Ott, this is an important time to remind people about the importance of health screenings and early detection of cancer.
"We look forward to Breast Cancer Awareness Month each year because it gives us another opportunity to connect with the people of the communities we serve. In addition, it provides us the chance to remind people how important it is to ask their physicians about needed health screenings," Ott said.
"All of us at Fitzgibbon Hospital look forward to the day when cancer is eradicated and we no longer have to observe events like Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Until then, we want to let people know we are here for them when they need us."
The month-long observance will kick off in style with a special Bingo Night at the Marshall Knights of Columbus Hall on Tuesday, Sept. 30.
Cards go on sale at 4 p.m. and Eight Table games begin at at the same time.
Early Bird games are scheduled to begin between 5 p.m. and 5:25 p.m., with regular games to follow.
Cards are nine for $13, or you can pay $25 to participate in all games.
Dinner will also be served that evening, with the menu to be announced.
Proceeds from both dinner and bingo will go toward cancer awareness programs at Fitzgibbon Hospital.
A mayoral proclamation will take place on the Saline County Courthouse lawn beginning at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 1. Special speakers will be on hand for the event. The public is invited to attend.
Area residents can expect to see flocks of pink flamingoes descending on neighborhoods throughout Marshall on or around Oct. 13. Flamingo insurance will be available. Contact the number listed below for more information.
