Helen E. Alfrey, 88, of Marshall, died Saturday, Sept. 20, 2008, at her home.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2008, at Sweeney-Reser-Wills Funeral Home in Marshall, with Rev. Randy Shannon officiating. Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday at Sweeny-Reser-Wills Funeral Home. Organist Ramona Bullington will play "How Great Thou Art" and "In The Garden." Pallbearers will be Jeff Alfrey, Robert J. Alfrey, Scott Alfrey, Bradshaw Cowan, Bob Stalter and Terry Townsend. Burial will be in Ridge Park Cemetery.
She was born March 10, 1920, in Marshall, the daughter of the late George C. Emmerson and Minnie Loch Emmerson. She was a resident of Marshall all of her life. She had been employed at Swisher Title and Abstract for several years and was a stenographer for the division of Family Services for over 20 years before her retirement. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, where she was a Sunday School teacher for many years.
Survivors include two sons, Thomas J. Alfrey of Grain Valley and Robert E. Alfrey of Marshall; one sister, Grace Johnson of Springfield; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers and one sister.
