George Wesley "Wes" Kessler, 85, of Marshall, died Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2008, at Fitzgibbon Hospital in Marshall.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 13, 2008, at First Baptist Church in Marshall, with Rev. Mike Parris and Rev. Vernon Maxted officiating. Visitation will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Friday at Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home in Marshall. Burial will be in Ridge Park Cemetery in Marshall. Born June 22, 1923, in Slater, he was the son of the late George William Kessler and Bertha Brockhoff Kessler. On Oct. 26, 1947, he married Elizabeth "Bette" Westmoreland, who survives of the home. He was a graduate of St. Louis College of Pharmacy, had lived in Marshall since 1955, moving from Glasgow, and retired after 64 years as a registered pharmacist. He was a member of First Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and taught Sunday school. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a member of VFW Post 2646 and American Legion Post 191 in Marshall.
Additional survivors include one son, George Wesley Kessler II of rural Sweet Springs; one daughter, Isobel Kessler McDaniel and her husband, Darryl, of Hoopeston, Ill.; five grandchildren, John Edwin Kessler, George Wesley Kessler III, Nathan Alexander Pointer, Stuart Lee Kessler and Meredith Leigh Pointer; six great-grandchildren; one sister, Olivia Crawford of Wichita, Kan.; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, two sisters preceded him in death.
