Jean Johnson, 73, of Gilliam, died Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2008, at her home.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, Sept. 14, 2008, at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Slater. Burial will be in Gilliam Cemetery. Visitation will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday at the church. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society or Gilliam Baptist Church in care of Weiker Funeral Home in Slater.
Born Aug. 24, 1935, in Oelwein, Iowa, she was the daughter of the late Laurence and Florence Arvilla Gates Miller. On Aug. 16, 1952, in Slater, she married Robert L. Johnson, who survives of the home. She was a member of Gilliam Baptist Church. She was a 1973 graduate of Marshall Vocational School of Nursing with licensed practical nursing degree. She earlier worked at Town & Country Shoe Co. in Slater and Big Bend Retreat Nursing Home. She worked at Fitzgibbon Hospital in Marshall and later at North Kansas City Hospital, where she retired in 2001. She moved to Gilliam from Kansas City in 2003.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by one son, Timothy Johnson of Gilliam; three grandchildren, Joshua Johnson, Christopher Johnson and Shelby Johnson; her stepmother, Charlotte Johnson Miller of Slater; five brothers, Luane Miller of rural Slater, Tommy Miller of rural Gilliam, Harold Miller of Kansas City, Bob Miller of Mission, Texas, and Jay Miller of Gilliam; and five sisters, Marlys Watson of Slater, Sherry Baker of rural Slater, Char Ann Young of rural Gilliam, Lana Miller of Slater and Kristy Heilman of Marshall.
She was preceded in death by twin granddaughters in infancy and one brother, Kenny Miller.
