The Marshall visit was part of a weekend swing through communities in the western part of the state, including Warrensburg, Sedalia and Independence. Nixon is pushing hard to capture rural voters throughout the state, a critical element in his campaign. In the elections of 2000 and 2004, Nixon ran strong in rural areas, even in counties that otherwise voted Republican.
Also on hand for the celebration were local Democratic leaders Joe Clements, newly-elected president of the Saline County Democratic Club; Joe Sadeghi, who is running against longtime State Senator Bill Stouffer; and State Representative Joe Aull, D-Marshall.
The new headquarters is located at 102 E. Morgan.
Ron Monnig, vice president of the Saline County Democratic Club, said current plans are for the building to be open Thursday and Friday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and at other times as volunteers become available.

Boy, AG Nixon sure gave a great speach on Saturday. If his ideas get passed the state will see positive results for people AND business.
One thing that he mentioned that impressed and angered me was that all the cuts to medicaid sent some federal money back to DC to be spent by other states. That would be our share of the federal money we sent to DC in the first place. Another thing he said that some of the uninsured of the state that would have been covered by Medicaid went to hospitals for treatment and the hospital never got paid. I wonder how much Fitzgibbon loses each year? Hospitals then raise their rates to all of us who have health insurance. Heck no wonder my individual health insurance jumped up 150.00 per month when I turned 50 and is now currently 621.00 per month!
Now if you apply my experience with health insurance and apply my raises in cost to businesses who insure their workers no wonder we have lost a lot of jobs in this state. Business can't be competetive in the world marketplace if they have to pay those costs to insure their workers.
If Social Security is the third rail of politics then healthcare costs and insurance are really the first rail of politics. Both on a statewide basis and as well as for the entire country.
