Senior all-NCMC forward Chris McCoy got the hat trick for the Owls, scoring the first two goals within 18 minutes -- the second one headed in off a crossing pass from sophomore Jon Najera.
With six minutes remaining in the first half, Najera stuck a penalty kick into the net. McCoy beat the Panthers (1-1) on a "through" ball from senior Josh Parsons early in the second half and junior Alex Tapia banged in a shot from the back of the penalty box -- assisted by senior Kaleb Brashears -- for the final tally.
Marshall controlled the match, out-shooting the home team by a 19-7 margin -- with a 7-3 edge in on-target attempts -- and had a 9-2 advantage in corner kicks. Senior goalkeeper Steven Skogsberg made three saves for his second shutout in as many starts.
McCoy recorded seven attempts and Najera six for the Owls (2-0), who play Monday against St. Paul in Concordia.
