A 9-year-old Marshall girl was injured Wednesday afternoon, Sept. 3, when she apparently was unable to stop her bicycle at an intersection and struck a vehicle, according to Marshall police.
The accident occurred at the intersection of West Arrow Street and Benton Avenue shortly before 2:20 p.m.
The girl, whose name was not immediately available, was taken by ambulance to Fitzgibbon Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

Awesome Stan!! LMAO!! That was quite entertaining on a Monday morning. Love it!
notgvnasht,
Given your chosen screen name I have to ask, why do you care?
Further, what does my political preference or party participation have to do with any of this? Okay. I'll play...
If you really wanna know, I'm throwing my support behind the Reverand Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson as write-in candidates for Pres and Veep, in no particular order, and Oprah as head of Foreign Affairs. Further, I plan to invest every penny of my U.S. Dollars into legislation to have the bald eagle replaced as our national symbol with the Geiko gheko. I support $^*%#^*(%^% (the Language Formerly Known As English) as the official language of the United States, and Scientology (funded by the government)as the only recognized religion. I send frequent and prolific correspondence to our state and federal legislators asking them to lobby for mandatory sterilization indiscriminately (my answer to over-population), and--just cuz I can always handle a good laugh--I'd like to see Tom Cruise's face on some form of American currency...food stamps, perhaps.
I'm also voting Dr. Phil for the House/Senate judiciary committee (voice of reason), Rodney King to the U.N. (peace negotiator), Tonya Harding as Chief Justice (cuz she sho can giv justice), Paris Hilton as Secretary of the Treasury (need a big purse for that) and OJ Simpson to the Department of Defense (no one in the world with more experience in defending themselves). And, to be quite honest, I couldn't think of a better person for White House Chief of Staff than Danny Bonaduce.
And you just gotta know that somewhere in the realm of poetic justice, there is a place in American government for Michael Jackson. Only in this great country could a poor, young boy of color grow up to be a disgustingly rich white woman. I got it. Department of Wildlife Conservation (cuz he's pickled as a pig's foot and obviously digs animals).
I believe gun control is a simple issue: aim better.
I believe this country is lysdexic when it comes to welfare; should be "farewell".
I believe in the entitlement of everyone's opinion. I believe a license issued by Harvard should be required to share it, or, at least some proof than one can tie their own shoes.
I believe if we continue to crap on the American livestock farmer, our "can't live without it" fast food will be introduced to even more food substitutes and the growing obesity problem in this nation will virtually and eventually eliminate any need for universal health care altogether. I believe the guy who invented Hamburger Helper should be imprisoned. I believe the guy who developed six dozen varieties of it should be put to death.
I believe we are roughly 100 years late worrying about greenhouse gasses. Somewhere around the whole, let's say, Industrial Revolution may have been a good place to start. (Brings to mind an interesting aside: how much toxic gas is expunged by the space shuttle in man's attempt at finding safe place to inhabit besides earth? Sort of an oxymoron, don't ya think?)
I believe Delusion should be recognized as the 51st state given it's population and popularity--seem to be a lot of folks relocating there lately.
As you are responding to my little political escapade (as I'm sure you will), please note--right above the little box you're typing in--the portion of the sentence that reads "...and try to stay on topic". You know, just to be clear and all.
Don't fret. I'm not forgetting you. I'd back notgvnasht for White House Press Secretary any day of the year!
And last, if it's you notgvn then it's me nottakn:) Have a good day, and Happy Motoring!
Respectfully,
Stan D Ardman
notgvn - Smokin' Cheetah was clearly joking, as indicated by the little :) after his comment. Probably not an indication of his political orientation.
Smokin Cheetah,
Who said anything about blame game with global warming. I think you have a problem understanding what you read. I bet you are voting for mccrap too. Usually those types have a solid MISS-UNDERSTANDING of everything around them.
townisover,
That wasn't volleyball mom who suggested you were a year late--that was me. Good attempt at a pun though. Your concern now may be for the girl's safety, but your concern earlier focused on early-outs at school (that would be the year-old subject).
A kid got nailed Tuesday the 8th running after school for soccer practice. In this case, it happened well after 3 pm so the early out thing really doesn't hold water.
Hey...maybe both these kids got hit because of global warming. I mean, if it'd been cold as hell and freezing rain they wouldn't have been outside playing. Might as well blame it on global warming...every other socioecomomic failing does:)
hey volleyball mom, better a year late than never, so you stay on top of the ball for us all, main concern is the girls safety !!!! :]
volleyballmom,
I stand corrected. I was just told the crossing guards are hired by the PD (as posted earlier, I hope I didn't assert that I knew anything for certain). So, sounds like a good idea:) As long as it was economical and feasible, I would give this idea a voice of support. Good idea!!
let's see,
Thank you. I feel and know the same things. Just didn't see the need in diggin' up bones. Those would have been my points to thistownisover, but.....well, read his/her post. There didn't seem to be any point in continuing the conversation.
volleyballmom raised a good issue though (crossing guards). I can't see it being feasible but does anyone know for sure?
Before everyone gets too worked up about school letting out early, maybe you need to know that most schools get out early one day a week for teacher meetings. It's not coffee and gossip time. You can all thank No Child Left Behind for this, don't blame the schools. Schools are in trouble because of the Federal Government, and they have to have time to make sure everyone is on the same page and doing right by the children.
Also, the school cannot provide after school care given by para's. There is a limit to how many children a teacher can be in charge of, para's haven't finished a degree, they are not teachers yet, and they are not babysitters. They are aslo paid by the hour, and since that pay does not include teacher meetings, why would they be expeced to babysit???? Not in their job discription people.
This poor little girl. I'm glad she is okay.
townisover,
You're approximately an entire school-year late on your argument. This one's been well covered.
volleyballmom,
I believe the crossing guards are actually employees of the district. If I'm not mistaken they are governed by the school district's transportation department. Your suggestion is a good one, but I don't see how Marshall Public Schools could be responsible (or even legally allowed) to position traffic controllers at intersections that aren't in the immediate vicinity of the school. That responsibility would fall under the City of Marshall's obligations (police department).
In any event, I'm glad this little girl is going to be OK. She'll be in my prayers...
And if you read the editor's response to my question, hisle, you'll see that it wasn't originally in the online version... the story said she couldn't stop... didn't say her feet, a bike, an airplane, a skateboard, nada... I asked what she couldn't stop and the story has since been fixed.
Read a little closer.
I remember as a kid when all the busy streets of Marshall had crossing guards for the little kids after school. Why can't they have crossing guards on Arrow and College streets so things like this doesn't happen.
because marshall public schools , release all schools basically a hour early evey wedesday the entire school year, so teachers can have meetings, evey week ???? puts a big strain & worries on working parents even if your are off at the old school time of 5:00 p.m. so called normal time, that it is just another day & 1 more hour, parents have to worry, what the kids are up to with that extra hour of free time evey week & more daycare to pay or someone to watch thier kids!!! IF THE TEACHERS NEED THIS TIME SO BAD, THEN THE KIDS SHOULD BE HELD IN SCHOOL AS A GROUP USING AIDS OR PARA'S SO THE STUDENTS CAN WORK ON HOME WORK, PROJECTS, PROBLEM AERAS SUCH AS LATE WORK ETC, LIKE A GROUP STUDY SESSION, AND LET THE KIDS OUT AT NORMAL TIME ON WED. COVERS EVERYONE'S NEEDS !!!!
School gets out at 2:15 on Wednesdays for teacher collaborations.
If you read the story above it say's the girl was unable to stop her bicycle at the intersection, sometimes you on-line readers need to look a little closer
The incident happened at 2:20 p.m.? Why wasn't this girl in school?
was this girl on a bike or what? Kind of useful info, no?
