The Lady Owls scored the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning to beat Mexico the previous day, but were unable to hold onto a one-run lead in the late stages of its non-conference road tilt.
Base hits by senior Emma Gonzalez, sophomore Shelby Eskina and junior Alexa Huebotter -- the last two with two outs in the bottom of the sixth and Marshall clinging to a 2-1 lead -- propelled the Lady Tigers to victory.
Gonzalez retired the Lady Owls in order for the complete-game victory.
Warrensburg scored in the first inning when sophomore lead-off hitter Briana Carter reached on an error, stole two bases and came in on junior Sadie Purington's ground ball.
However, sophomore Chelsey Anderson put together another long stretch of solid pitching for Marshall -- blanking the Lady Tigers for four frames, aided by a pair of throws by sophomore catcher Emily Aldredge to gun down attempted steals of second base.
The Lady Owls, though, managed only three hits off of Gonzalez -- two coming in the third, when both of the Birds' runs were scored. Junior KaeLeigh Brown began the stanza by drawing a walk and junior Chandra Crawford followed with a base hit.
Crawford was forced out at second base on sophomore Kelsey Griffin's bouncer to shortstop, but Brown scored. Griffin went to second on a passed ball and swiped third, scoring the go-ahead run on senior Alicia Gross' single.
Gross had a single after an error put Griffin on base to start the fifth inning, but a double play wiped her out and Marshall was unable to threaten again -- Gonzalez retiring the last five batters she faced.
Gonzalez had two hits to pace the offense for Warrensburg (1-0).
The Lady Owls (1-1) will head to Fulton for an NCMC clash with the defending conference co-champions Thursday.
