Virginia Wackerman, 79, of Sweet Springs, died Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2008, at University Hospital & Clinics in Columbia.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 23, 2008, at Campbell-Lewis Chapel in Sweet Springs, with William W. Harlow officiating. Visitation will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Private family burial will be in Crescent Hill Cemetery in Adrian. Memorials may be made to I-70 Medical Center. Born Aug. 6, 1929, in Blackburn, she was the daughter of the late Arnold A. Opfer and Ethel Wiley Opfer. She married Harvey L. Wackerman, who preceded her in death. She had lived in Sweet Springs the last three years, moving from Adrian, and was a bookkeeper for many years. She was a graduate of Blackburn High School and attended Missouri State Teachers College in Warrensburg.
Survivors include two brothers, Arnold Opfer Jr. of Kansas City and Granville Opfer of rural Blackburn.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one brother, William Opfer.
