Former Marshall man killed in Hollister collision/Forsyth man charged with involuntary manslaughter

Wednesday, August 20, 2008

A former Marshall man was killed early Monday, Aug. 18, when his motorcycle collided with another vehicle on U.S. Highway 65 in Hollister.

Chad Alan Fuqua, 40, was pronounced dead about 1:15 a.m. Monday at Skaggs Hospital in Branson, according to a Missouri State Highway Patrol report.

The accident happened shortly after midnight when a 2007 Hummer, driven by Chadwick B. Carter, 27, of Forsyth, made a U-turn in front of Fuqua's motorcycle, troopers said. Fuqua was ejected from the bike when it struck the left rear corner of the Hummer.

According to a story in the Hometown Daily News, Carter was charged Monday with involuntary manslaughter after allegedly admitting to troopers that he'd been drinking prior to the accident.

Fuqua's mother, LaVaughn "Vonnie" Fuqua-Mathiesen, said her son was a 1986 graduate of Marshall High School, attended Missouri Valley College and was active in a local National Guard unit.

He was the parks director for the city of Hollister.

Any of us who went to school with Chad at either the Bueker Middle School or Marshall High knew him as both funny and a smart ass. He was a great drummer that I thought was like Tommy Lee, Haha Chad! I had some fun times listening to the band above the square. I hadn't seen him in years but knew if I ran into him, it wouldn't have seemed that long since I had seen him. I know Heaven is rocking out and got to be bent over from all the lauging. Bless his family and the extended family here in town.

"Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted"-- Jesus Christ on the Mount, Matthew 5:4

Chad..you were one funny guy in school! I haven't been around Marshall or MO since the early 90's and this is a shock to hear about...I will always remember you as hyper..walking fast..and always on "the go". Rest in peace, buddy. Alot of us will never forget you. To the family: no words can heal you. Just know many people near AND far have you in our thoughts and prayers. God bless.

What a shock this is, When I first heard the news, I just couldn't believe it, I went to school with chad, he was a very funny and nice guy, chad and i wasnt what you call very close, but he always spoke to me, i have alot of memories of him, when we were in 7th grade art class together we were working and a project and he found out what my middle name was, and he started calling me by my first and middle name, and to this day that is what everyone know's me by, He sat beside me in class and when the teacher wasnt looking he would reach over and pull my hair, not being mean just being Chad, maybe he was flirting, LOL, after graduating, he or one of his friends lived in this house behind a gas station and there was a pay phone at the gas station, you could see from the house, he knew the phone number to the pay phone, and one day i used the phone, after i got off the phone, it rang and rang until i picked it up, and guess who, and of course he had something off the wall to say, at first i didnt know who it was and how this person knew where i was,I believe him and his friends did this to alot of people, even people they didnt know, he was always cracking a joke about something, what a great personality he had, he will be missed very much, To the family of Chad, your in my thoughts and prayers.

Terrible news, I am several years younger and did'nt even know him until I started College at CofO(yes it was my wallet). I would see him around Branson quite a bit and he would always chat for a little while and ask how my family was doing back in Marshall. Thoughts and prayers go out to his family.

Here's a cool story about Chad. My brother was going to school at the College of the Ozarks and had his wallet stolen. A few month's later, Chad was working at a convenience store at night and a kid came in trying to buy beer with my brother's ID. Knowing who my brother was, he kept the Id and the kid hightailed it out of there. This stuff shouldn't happen to the good eggs.
