Charles R. Stone Sr.

Charles R. "Bob" Stone Sr., 73, of Hermitage, died Thursday, Aug. 7, 2008, at his home.

A memorial visitation was held from 2 to 3 p.m. Monday, Aug. 11, 2008, at Hathaway-Peterman Funeral Home in Wheatland, with Galmey VFW Post 9638 conducting military honors at 2 p.m.

He was born Feb. 21, 1935, in Marshall, the son of the late Martin and Valda (Burgess) Stone. He was a retired U.S. Navy veteran, serving 20 years, and was a postman for the Navy. He had moved to the Heritage area about six years ago, having formerly lived in Marshall and Forsythe. He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Galmey.

Survivors include his wife, Thelma Stone of the home; four sons, Don Stone, Charles Stone Jr. and Lynn Stone, all of the state of Texas, and Martin Stone of Andrew, Texas; two daughters, Debbie Stone of Forsythe and Daphne Brookshire of St. James; two stepsons, Robert Lane of Aurora and Thomas Lane of Springfield; two stepdaughters, Theresa Cannady of Antioch, Tenn., and Patricia Lee of Nixa; one sister, Maxine Thomas of Marshall; 12 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Danny Stone.
