Myrtle Martha Caroline Hein Walker, 93, of Boonville, formerly of Slater, died Monday, Aug. 4, 2008, at Cooper County Memorial Hospital Care Center.
Funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 8, 2008, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Boonville, with Rev. John Roach officiating. Visitation will be from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the church prior to the funeral service. Burial will be in the Walnut Grove Cemetery in Boonville. The family suggests memorial contributions to Immanuel Lutheran Church of Boonville or Peace Lutheran Church of Slater.
She was born Oct. 2, 1914, at Bunceton, the daughter of Bertha Vieth Hein and Jens Frederick Hein. She graduated from Bunceton High School in 1933. After graduation, she attended and graduated from Chillicothe Business College in Chillicothe. She worked for Hamilton Brown Shoe Company in Boonville, which was later renamed the Selwyn Shoe Company. She married John Raymond Walker on Oct. 8, 1938. They moved to Slater in 1954. She later went to work for Town & Country Shoes, where she worked for a total of 22 years until retirement. She and her husband were very active in the forming of Peace Lutheran Church in Slater, where she also taught Sunday School, Bible School and was a member of the Lutheran Church Ladies Aid.
She is survived by one son, Terry Walker of Blue Springs; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and one sister, Helen Torbeck of Cooper County Memorial Hospital Care Center in Boonville.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John R. Walker in 2004, and her son, Michael R. Walker in 2006.
