Subject of search near I-70 found

Saline County deputies spent about two hours Thursday morning, Aug. 7, looking for a man who had walked away from a van transporting people between mental health facilities.

Sheriff Wally George said the man was located near the 77 mile marker about 12:15 p.m. and would be returned to the custody of mental health facility officials.

George said the man was not considered dangerous, but officials were worried he might come to harm while unsupervised.

A number of law enforcement agencies participated in or were prepared to help with the search, including the Missouri State Highway Patrol and the Saline County Medical Reserve Corp.

I can see why that might imply law enforcement involvement. We'll try to get more information on this situation and clarify whose supervision the man was under.

I think the law enforcement did a good job finding the man and getting him back to where he belonged.

He was not in law enforcement custody. No details are available yet about who the van belonged to or what security measures were taken.
