The 10th Annual Sweet Springs Optimist Car Show will be held Saturday, Aug. 2, at Sweet Springs City Park in conjunction with the Sweet Springs Gusher Days Festival.

This year's event will feature 24 classes of cars, trucks, motorcycles and specialty vehicles, such as pro-street, T-buckets and unfinished. There are also special classes for Corvettes and Mustangs. All classes are open to any and all participants.

On-site registration the day of the event will be $15. Registration begins at 8 a.m. and judging will begin at 11 a.m. Trophies will be awarded at 3 p.m.

The car show usually draws over 100 vehicles. In case of inclement weather, a rain date of Aug. 17 has been scheduled.

Other features are a raffle and a 50-50 cash jackpot.

Raffle tickets are available for $1 each or six for $5, and you do not need to be present to will. Prizes include Cardinal tickets, Arrow Rock Lyceum Theatre tickets, Six Flags (family of four) passes, a Rams mini-helmet and more.

The 50-50 cash jackpot requires that you be present to win. You may buy tickets for $1 each, an arm's length for $5 and your height for $10. The lucky winner will receive half of the money collected, while the other half of the proceeds will benefit Optimist Youth Projects.

The concession stand will be in full swing all day with hot dogs, foot-long Polish sausage, hamburgers, cheeseburgers, soda, bottled water, chips and more.

All proceeds from this event will benefit the 15+ youth projects that the Optimist Club conducts throughout the year, including Halloween Spook-tacular, Dictionaries to 4th Graders, helping needy families with children during the holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter), Breakfast with Santa, Oratorical Contest, Essay Contest, Substance Abuse Prevention Poster Contest, scholarships, Bike Rodeo and more.

The Sweet Springs Optimist Club meets the second and fourth Tuesdays at 7 p.m. at Sweet Water Restaurant. All interested persons are welcome to join.
