Oral Louis Craton, 98, of Hannibal, formerly of Marshall, died Wednesday, July 23, 2008, at Beth Haven Nursing Home in Hannibal.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 26, at Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home in Marshall, with Pastor Mark Gooden and Rev. Lindell Shumate officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Gardens Cemetery. Graveside military rites will be conducted by Missouri Military Funeral Honors. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until time of services Saturday at Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home in Marshall. Memorials may be made to God's Harvesters in care of Smith Funeral Home and Chapel in Hannibal or Marshall Family Worship Center in care of Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home in Marshall.
He was born Nov. 12, 1909, in LaGrange, Wyo., the son of Charlie and Elizabeth Ferguson Craton. He married Ruth Elizabeth "Lisa" Anderson on Oct. 6, 1943; she preceded him in death on Dec. 7, 1996. He worked in soil conservation in Saline County for 20 years and later taught the handicapped at Carrollton Sheltered Workshops. He was a veteran of World War II and served in Iwo Jima and Hawaii. He was a member of American Legion Post 191 in Marshall. His life reflected his love for his Lord Jesus Christ, his family and his country.
Survivors include three daughters, Joan Malone and her husband, John, of Hannibal, Gayle Hayes and her husband, Edgar, of Milliken, Colo., and Lynn Thorpe and her husband, David, of Creve Coeur; two grandsons, John Malone and his wife, Julie, of St. Louis and Jeff Malone and his wife, Nikki, of Hannibal; and five great-grandchildren.
