Muriel G. Balicki, 87, of Slater, died Tuesday, July 22, 2008, at Fitzgibbon Hospital in Marshall.

Cremation. Memorial services will be held Friday, July 25, 2008, at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Slater, with Fr. Michael Penn officiating. Inurnment will be at 1 p.m. at Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville. Memorials are suggested to St. Jude Children's Hospital or The Salvation Army in care of Weiker Funeral Home in Slater.

Born Aug. 9, 1920, in Council Bluffs, Iowa, she was the daughter of the late Edward J. and Cecil Mae Ferritor Schilling. On March 2, 1941, she married Eugene L. "Gene" Balicki, who survives of the home. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Slater and its Altar and Rosary Sodality. She had worked as librarian of Slater Public Library for 17 years, until her retirement.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by one son, Clifford G. Balicki of Excelsior Springs; one daughter, Gail A. De la Fuente of Rosarito, Mexico; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Phyllis Locke of Springfield and Patricia Havel of Port Orange, Fla.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Ruth Johnson and Colleen Chouinard.
