Okla. man seriously hurt in 3-vehicle collision July 18

Monday, July 21, 2008

Jimmie R. Jones, 47, of Fort Gibson, Okla., was life-flighted to University Hospital in Columbia Friday, July 18, after he was seriously injured in a three-vehicle accident around 5:30 p.m. on County Road 117, a short distance south of Highway 240.

Jones was southbound on a 1976 Harley Davidson motorcycle when he was hit head-on by a 2006 Ford F-250 truck driven by Jesse L. James, 30, of Slater. Jones was thrown off the motorcycle and into a ditch. The motorcycle was totaled, according to the report.

James' vehicle continued northbound and collided with a 2000 Ford Focus driven by Destennie M. Arnold, 23, of Marshall.

James and Arnold were wearing safety belts at the time of the accident; neither was injured.

Both vehicles sustained moderate damage

No summonses were issued; the accident is under investigation.

Information for this report was provided by the Missouri State Highway Patrol from their Web site at http://www.mshp.dps.mo.gov/HP68/SearchAc...

Jimmie was on a motorcycle. they dont have seatbelts and they only have two wheels; seems they would be less sturdy than a truck. i understand that people are upset that someone was injured but you should stop and think how things would be if the tables were turned. we should all be thankful that only injuries were involved instead of pointing fingers.

B. Stanley sounds like you hit a nerve with yet another of Mr. James's friends. I myself think it is very odd that no tickets were issued and that no breathalyzer tests were given at the scene. That is why I have contacted the Attorney General and MSHP asking why such a tragety can happen and no one be at fault. I think if more people stepped up and demanded action this could be resolved.

save it happy emt! He hit 2 people, not one. We have all drove the country roads and know that if you can't stop after running over the first person, your going to fast! Jimmie is reporting that jesse was "flying." That is what jimmie told me himself(the day he was released from ICU.) No breathalyzer taken at scene of accident. Why is that? Someones not doing there job. You seemed to have forgotten that there is person in serious condition resulting from this "accident." And again to the Jones family, our thoughts and prayers are with you and prosecute to the FULLEST!

First off was any of you out there with a radar gun clocking the vehicles speeds, NO!! Second if you have ever wrecked on a gravel road your gonna slide further than u would on a highway at a low speed. And as a motorcycle rider myself since i was old enough to have a license on almost every county road there are only two worn tracks on most road from everyone driving down the center of the road and about any cyclist is gonna choose to ride on one of the tracks instead of on the loose gravel to protect the bike. ACCIDENTS DO happen. thats why they are called accidents no one is at fault. Maybe if you wasnt involved or seen the wreck happen you should stay silent, unless ur just an angry ex wife or her family that is........

I also find this story hard to belive. No matter who was first to respond the facts are the facts and no one person can say this seems normal. One totaled motorcycle, one 2006 F250, & one 2000 Focus with moderate damage,(enough to be towed), one person on a life flight, and all this at 30mph max. Not likely! It seems to me in order for a person to hit a motorcycle and not be able to stop before striking another car may raise some eyebrows. While an investagation continues any logical person can see speeding was an obvious factor. So if nothing else right now why not at least a speeding ticket. I am with most others who have commented on this think it has something to do with the police. While my prayers are with Jones family, my thoughts are on how something like this can happen & nothing be done to Mr. James.

To the Jones family: our thoughts and prayers are with you. I am also writing to let you know that everyone that was at the scene of the accident did know Jesse and some related to him. Jesse always seems to slide by without paying for his mistakes. He needs to be charged with something. Again, to the jones family, our thoughts are with you. And prosecute to the fullest!

Jake, I will surely pray for you father. It is a shame what has happened. Even though it was posted that it is still under investigation. I would seriously doubt it concidering Mr. James's cousins were first on scene and the hwy patrolman that worked the accident is is friend and confidont. I myself dont plan on letting this go, I plan on calling the Attorney General and find out why nothings being done. Keep the faith

While my prayers are with the Jones' family, I can only wonder why there were no charges brought on the one person who hit both vehicles, could it be because he worked for both Slater PD and Saline County? I find it a little hard to swallow that no one was at fault.

Response by Eric Crump/Editor:
The Missouri State Highway Patrol report indicated that the investigation continues, which is not the same thing as saying no charges will be brought. That's a decision that hasn't yet been made by law enforcement officials.

I will pray for your Dad my thoughts are with you and your family. Mikes sister terry.
