Dehn steer takes grand champion honors as FFA District Fair concludes July 15

The Central District FFA Fair wrapped up the two-day event with the beef and dairy cattle shows taking place at the Saline County Fairground on Tuesday, July 15.

In the beef cattle show, Marshall FFA member Paul Dehn took Grand Champion Steer honors with a 1,274-pound crossbreed steer. Ashlyn Richardson of State Fair FFA showed the Reserve Champion Steer, a 1,432-pound crossbreed.

In the heifer show, Brittany Early of Leeton won Overall Champion Female with her Simmental cow-calf pair and Audrianna Drechsel of Boonville was Reserve Champion Female with an Angus heifer. The overall Champion Bull was a Charolais shown by Morgan Kueckelhan of Boonville. Bailey Marriott of Stover won the Reserve Champion Bull with a Gelbvieh. Early also won the Showmanship Award, while Zach Kempf of Boonville was High Point Individual. The Boonville FFA chapter won the Chapter Sweepstakes Award for having the most entries. There were 63 animals shown in the beef show, including 19 steers.

In the dairy cattle show, Angela Cochran of Holden showed the Grand Champion, while Katie Springer of Pleasant Hill showed the Reserve Champion female. Springer also won the Showmanship Award and Pleasant Hill FFA was awarded the Chapter Sweepstakes Award.

In other awards from the two-day show, Julissa Monnig of Slater was named High Point Individual and Slater FFA took home the Chapter Sweepstakes Award in Fruits and Vegetables.

The Chapter Sweepstakes Award in Field Crops was awarded to Pleasant Hill and Springer was the High Point Individual.

In Floriculture, Warrensburg won the Chapter Sweepstakes Award while Warrensburg students Catie Hoemann, John Bievens, Katrina Coggin and Kelsey Kidd tied for High Point Individual.

In all, approximately 51 of the Central District's 59 schools had exhibitors in at least one day of the show.

Lloyd and Lanna Camp of LC Fundraising paid for all plaques awarded to the winners.
