Nelson man hurt in accident

Royce E. Champion, 61, of Nelson, sustained moderate injuries in an accident Monday afternoon, July 14, on Route J at Franklin Drive in Cooper County.

According to a report from Missouri State Highway Patrol, Champion was driving too fast and failed to negotiate a curve. His 2005 Chrysler Pacifica went off the right side of the roadway, back across the road off the left side of the roadway, over an embankment and overturned.

Champion, who was wearing a safety belt at the time of the accident, was taken to Cooper County Memorial Hospital by Cooper County medics.

Damage to the automobile was extensive. No summons was issued.
