Ashley Rachelle Davis, 18, of Butler, died Wednesday, July 2, 2008, in Crawford County, near Steelville, as the result of a canoeing accident.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Monday, July 7, 2008, at First Baptist Church in Butler, with Rev. Vernon Maxted officiating and Terry Davis and Michael Norman assisting. Burial was held in Oak Hill Cemetery in Butler. Contributions may be made to Butler First Baptist Church or Davis Memorial Fund in care of Schowengerdt Funeral Chapel or BC National Bank. She was born Oct. 4, 1989, to Terry Joe and Valera Kay Maxted Davis in Clinton, Iowa. She attended school at Butler Elementary, Calvary Christian School in Nevada (where she won the Christian Character Award in 2002), and graduated high school from A Beka Christian Academy, where she was on the A honor roll all four years. She accepted Christ as her Savior and became a Christian at the young age of eight. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Butler, where she was very active in her youth group. She enjoyed going on mission trips and attending Christian concerts. She liked singing with the choir and Praise Band, as well as singing solos. She loved working with children, helping out in the Preschool Ministry and Children's Church and babysitting for her nephews and niece. She had been a member of Butler Torpedoes Swim Team.

She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, watching movies and shopping. She also liked reading and drawing clothing designs. She had a great sense of humor and loved to laugh and make others laugh. She had a strong faith in the Lord and sought to let others see Jesus in her life.

She lived by the motto "Faith in Jesus is needed for a fantastic future; friendships are needed to gladden the heart." She will be dearly missed by all family members and friends until they see her again.

She is survived by her parents, Terry and Kay Davis of Butler; three sisters, Catherine Joline Davis, Stacy Lynn Davis and Lindsay Michelle Davis, all of Butler; maternal grandparents, Vernon and Clareca Maxted of Marshall; paternal grandfather, Harold Davis of Orange, Calif.; two nephews, Draden and Anthony; one niece, Makayla; two uncles, Phillip Davis and Larry Charles; three aunts, Sandy Davis, Sherry Butler and her husband, Les, and Beverly Pummell and her husband, Gary; several cousins and a host of friends.

She was preceded in death by her paternal grandmother, Mary Helen Davis, and one aunt, Gayle Charles.
