Jewel F. Thomas, 58, of Meridian, Miss., formerly of Slater, died Friday, July 4, 2008, at Rush Foundation Hospital in Meridian.
Cremation. Memorial graveside services will be held Friday, July 11, 2008, at 2 p.m. at Concord Cemetery near Saline City. Rev. Lowell Moore and Rev. Emory Schambliss will officiate. Weiker Funeral Home in Slater is in charge of arrangements.
Born Jan. 4, 1950, in Butler, Ala., he was the son of Katie Emmons Thomas Raybourn of Slater and the late Richard J. Thomas. He moved from Slater to the state of Mississippi, where he lived for many years, and was a commercial painter.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by two sons, Joseph "Jo Jo" F. Thomas and B.J. Thomas, both of Mosel, Miss.; one daughter, Michelle Hensolin of Mosel; eight grandchildren; five sisters, Grace Wigington of Slater, Katie Wilson of Trimble, Virginia Burkey of Blue Springs, Fay Keller of Nelson and Jessie Kay Bryson of rural Slater; and three stepsisters.
He was preceded in death by his father; stepfather, James Raybourn; one son, Shasta Thomas; and one granddaughter.
