2nd teen dies after crash on South Salt Pond

Friday, July 4, 2008

A second Marshall teen died Thursday evening, July 3, from injuries suffered when a van collided with a tree in the 1300 block of South Salt Pond Avenue in Marshall at 2 p.m.

Stephanie Rapp, 15, died at 8:15 p.m. at University Hospital in Columbia, according to Saline County Coroner Willie Harlow.

Rapp was riding in the back seat of the van, according to Missouri State Highway Patrol troopers.

The driver, Christian Argueta, 18, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.

Troopers said a passenger in the van reported that Argueta may have blacked out prior to the collision.

The van apparently went through the intersection of Salt Pond Avenue and College Street without stopping, troopers said.

A second passenger, Derian Martin, 15, of Marshall, suffered moderate injuries, according to troopers, and was taken to University Hospital Thursday afternoon.
