Marshall school board to hold special session, 2 hearings next week

Sunday, July 6, 2008

The Marshall Board of Education announced Thursday afternoon, July 3, the schedule for a series of meetings this week, including a special meeting Monday, July 7, and two public hearings for elementary school teachers accused of being involved in a breach of standardized test security, including the identities of the teachers involved.

In separate news releases, the board announced it will hold a special meeting at 6 p.m. Monday and public hearings at 6 p.m. Tuesday, July 8, and Wednesday, July 9, all in the conference room at the Central Administration Building, Vest Street and Miami Avenue.

Three items are on the agenda for the open session Monday: consideration of the athletic handbook, the Bueker Middle School handbook and boiler bids.

The board also plans to go into closed session in order to discuss a number of matters, including legal actions, real estate, a number of personnel-related issues and "confidential or privileged communication with auditor." The next two nights the board will convene public hearings for three Eastwood Elementary School teachers, Crystal McGraw, Dawn Plummer and Nathan Reeder, who have been accused by former Interim Superintendent Donn Quick of having paper and digital copies of Missouri Assessment Test items in violation of test security protocols.

What part of DUE PROCESS, INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY, EVIDENCE (actual, not hearsay), and INTENT do you NOT understand!??

Many of those who have been accused of "supporting cheaters" - flaming nonsense - have ACTUALLY been advocating for DUE PROCESS, a concept that seems to totally elude the McCarthy-ites among us...

One of the reasons the House Committee on UnAmerican Activities was finally considered one of the worst epeisodes in American history is EXACTLY because of behavior like this - accuse and scream and point fingers and call names. There is a reason that it's called 'witch-hunting'!

IF the evidence is actually real, then they take the consequences, but until it's presented, admitted, and properly examined and cross=examined, it's just rumor!

IF the Board is acting like a kangaroo court and NOT presiding over a FAIR and IMPARTIAL hearing, then they are culpable and liable, so they better watch their Ps and Qs...

In other board news, has anyone noticed how many contracts have been offered and REFUSED in the last few months? How many have left? Get a clue, folks... this whole fiasco is having ripple effects far wider than just Eastwood...Who would want to take a job in what appears to be a snake-pit of community controversy and not a very supportive atmosphere....

"I'm not sorry I did anything wrong, just sorry I got caught!"

You hit the nail on the head with that statement!!!!

Why is it that the "accused" and their supporters are so angry with the accusers? Cheating ocurred, knowingly or not. Are peoples morals so messed up that telling is more wrong than the act itself? It's like "I'm not sorry I did anything wrong, just sorry I got caught!"

Guffaw, I agree. This IS a major event for the people of Marshall. It's a good time for everyone to "put up" or "shut up." The people who are so certain that these teachers are guilty are finally going to get to show their face, or wait, maybe they won't. Since they can't sign their names to letters or face anyone in public, maybe they'll continue with the ostrich way of hiding their head in the sand. I'll bring some ribeyes if someone can bring the grill.

Please note that the teachers "have been accused by former superintendent Don Quick" - not the 'anonymous whistleblower'...

No kidding, Oldblackcat! This is a major event for the people of Marshall! I'm sure there will be tailgating in the parking lot...

Umm....is the conference room going to be big enough for the hearings?
