Bertha May Pope, 78, of Marshall, died Saturday, June 21, 2008, at Mar-Saline Manor in Marshall.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 1, 2008, at Campbell-Lewis Chapel in Marshall, with Rev. Dale Bean officiating. Visitation will be held from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Ridge Park Cemetery in Marshall. Pallbearers will be David Houston, Larry Wilhite, Marvin Wilhite, George Wilhite, Raymond Wilhite and Paul Wilhite. Honorary pallbearers will be Tony Houston, Christy Jenkins, Stephen Wilhite, Trish Russell, Shawn Wilhite, Raymond Wilhite II, Robert Wilhite and Charles and Coreen Wallace. Born Jan. 8, 1930, in Marshall, she was the daughter of the late Elza C. Pope and Margaret J. Keith Pope. She had lived in Marshall her entire life and was a member of First Assembly of God Church. She and her brother, Charles, were janitors at First Assembly of God Church for years. She also worked at Viking Hotel until it closed and at Ivy Haven Motel until she retired. She and her sister enjoyed several years together, going places together until the past five years when she became a resident of Mar-Saline Manor. She was a great volunteer at Marshall Senior Center, doing bread and desserts for the homebound people and helping with the serving of people who needed help with their meal.
Survivors include one sister, Lena Wilhite of Marshall Junction; one brother, Charles Pope of Marshall; one niece, Linda Houston of Higginsville; five nephews, Larry Wilhite of Jefferson City, George Wilhite of Clinton, and Marvin Wilhite, Raymond Wilhite and Paul Wilhite, all of Marshall Junction; and other relatives and a host of friends.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by two brothers, John Pope and Harvey Pope.
