Frances E. (Crawford) Southard, 90, of Marshall, went to be with her Lord Monday, June 16, 2008, at her home.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 21, 2008, at Marshall Church Of The Nazarene. Rev. Allen Howell will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, June 20, at Sweeney-Reser-Wills Funeral Home in Marshall. Lois McFarland, accompanied by Brenda Stoval, will sing "In the Garden" and "The Old Rugged Cross." Pallbearers will be Jimmy Crawford, Phillip Nasalroad, Danny Crawford, Randy Crawford, Larry Crawford and David Turpin. Honorary pallbearers will be Selby Nelson, Jerry Crawford, Donnie Crawford, Jack Crawford, Tom Bolling, Larry Merchant, Chris Blakely, Deward McFarland, Raymond Gibson Gordon DeGraffenried Sr. and Bob Wade. A memorial has been established to Marshall Church Of The Nazarene.

She was born Jan. 5, 1918, in Hickory County, the daughter of the late Benjamin F. and Mary S. (Nelson) Crawford. On Aug. 16, 1936, she married Roma H. Southard, who preceded her in death on March 29, 1990. Their wedding was preceded by her baptism. She was a long-time faithful member of Marshall Church Of The Nazarene. She was a strong-willed person with unbendable character, deep faith and abundant wit. She loved people and will be missed by many. Frances was an accomplished seamstress, gardener and cook. She worked for Marshall Public Schools for a time. She held various other jobs, always striving to be home when her children got home from school.

Survivors include two daughters, LaJune Southard of the home and Leona Howell and her husband, Allen, of Long Lane; one son, Howard W. Southard of Raymore; two brothers, Charles W. Crawford of Marshall and Frankie W. Crawford of Corder; one sister, Hazel Nasalroad of Hermitage; 12 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; five nieces; and 11 nephews.
