Marshall school board approves food service, technology contracts

The Marshall Board of Education met Tuesday, May 20, to approve contacts for food service and technology upgrades.

The board approved a food service agreement with Chartwell's for a new rate of $2.46 per meal for the 2008-2009 school year.

The current rate is $2.30, according to Interim Superintendent Donn Quick.

The board approved a technology upgrade from Professional Network Solutions in the amount of $51,425.

Quick said there is $14,000 difference from the next higher bid.

"They have a better guarantee," he said. This item is budgeted for the next school year.

The board also approved a worker's compensation bid from Accident Fund in the amount of $98,586, and the auto fleet insurance bid from State Farm in the amount of $20,97.94. The board tabled a decision on the property and liability insurance until more information is available.

In other business, Director of Activities Scott Latham informed the board about the number of student participating in extracurricular activities for the 2007-2008 school year.

Marshall High School had 913 students who participated in extracurricular activities.

This is an increase of 47 students from 2006-2007. About 350 home and away sponsored activities were held.

According to Latham, the district had one regional championship, four district championships, one district runner-up, one conference championship, 33 NCMC all-conference first team student athletes, seven NCMC all-conference second team student athletes, 14 all-district student athletes and 11 all-state athletes.

A list of 2007-2008 team/group accomplishments and individual accomplishments was given to the board.

"Once you put it on paper, it was a really successful year," Latham said.

In executive session, the accepted the resignations of Jeannie Driskell, Northwest Elementary secretary; Jeremy Fry, MHS art teacher; Joey Rainey, Bueker Middle School special education teacher; Amber Tottingham, BMS communication arts teacher; and Sandi Guthrey, fifth-grade teacher.

The board approved the employment of Katie Berger, seventh-grade volleyball coach; Bryan Gaskill, MHS language arts teacher and assistant wrestling coach; Brandon McDannald, flag corps sponsor; Chris Oswald, bus driver; Jon Stockman, seventh- and eighth-grade assistant wrestling coach; Aaron Wright, BMS activities director; Josh Ming, seventh- and eighth-grade head wrestling coach; Julie Gray, seventh-grade girls basketball coach; Danielle Charboneau, assistant girls soccer coach; Cathy Crawford, National Honor Society; Amanda Van Winkle, assistant track coach; Kevin Hart, boys basketball head coach; Tony Willis, assistant boys basketball coach; and Jason Rine, as an unpaid volunteer for open gym coach at MHS.

The next regular meeting will be Tuesday, June 24, at 7 p.m.
