Shirley E. Heard, 77, of Slater, died Tuesday, June 10, 2008, at Big Bend Retreat in Slater.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 14, at 10:30 a.m. at Slater United Methodist Church, with Rev. Jess Spurgin officiating. Bethany Weiker, organist, will accompany Jessica Fleetwood as she sings "In the Garden" and "Amazing Grace." Burial will be in Slater City Cemetery. Pallbearers will be John Markovich, Jim Gochenour, James Heard Jr., Ronnie Reuter, Ben Conrow and Bill Grandestaff. Honorary pallbearer is Capt. Robbie Roth. Visitation will be held from 6:30 until 8 p.m. Friday at Weiker Funeral Home in Slater. Memorials are suggested to the church or American Cancer Society.
Born July 4, 1930, in Saline County, she was the daughter of the late Richard and Shirley Neff Bramble Moore. On June 6, 1948, in Slater, she married Loice Edward Heard, who preceded her in death on Sept. 25, 2005. She was a member of the Slater United Methodist Church. She was a clerk for 34 years at City Pharmacy until her retirement in 2000.
She is survived by one son, James Heard of rural Slater; one daughter, Pamela Roth of Pilot Grove; six grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles Moore and Richard J. "Zeke" Moore, and two sisters, Mary K. Boston and Virginia Witthar.
