Mary Louise Hains Jones, 86, of Santa Fe, N.M., formerly of Marshall, died Thursday, May 22, 2008, in Santa Fe.
Services will be held June 6, 2008, at 10 a.m. at First Presbyterian in Santa Fe, with Terry Purvis-Smith officiating. Burial will be held in National Cemetery in Santa Fe. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations in honor of Mary go to PMS Hospice Center, 1400 Chama Ave., Santa Fe, NM 87505-3372; MDA-ALS Clinic, Department of Neurology, MSC 10 5620, 1 University of NM, Albuquerque, NM 87131, ATTN: ALS Center Accountant; or the charity of donor's choice.
She was born Sept. 11, 1921, in Marshall, the daughter of the late Rosier and Edna Hains, the former owner and editer of The Marshall Democrat-News. On Sept. 3, 1944, at First Methodist Church in Marshall, she married Ralph H. Jones, who she had known from kindergarten at Eastwood School. She became a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority in 1942 and graduated from Southern Methodist University in Dallas in 1943. She had lived in Santa Fe since 1962.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by two daughters, Carolyn Minton and her husband, Tom, of Santa Fe and Suzanne Verardo and her husband, Art, of Albuquerque; one son, John L. Jones and his wife, Janice, of Albuquerque; five grandchildren; three great-granddaughters; one nephew, Art Hains of Springfield, and many other nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Ruth, and one brother, Randall.
