Fred Andrew Guffin, 65, of Sedalia, died Thursday, May 22, 2008, at Bothwell Regional Health Center in Sedalia.
Graveside services will be held at noon Saturday, May 24, 2008, at Crown Hill Cemetery, with Rev. Tony Chapman officiating. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until service time Saturday at McLaughlin Funeral Chapel in Sedalia. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Bothwell Hospice or American Cancer Society in care of McLaughlin Funeral Chapel, 519 S. Ohio, Sedalia, MO 65301.
He was born Aug. 30, 1942, in Kansas City, the son of Claire R. and Hazel Brown Guffin. He was raised and educated in Marshall and later in Sedalia. He was a 1960 graduate of Smith-Cotton High School. He worked as an equipment operator for Howard Construction for many years. He then worked as a warehouse supervisor for Interstate Studios until his retirement in 2007. He enjoyed NASCAR and spending time outdoors. He also enjoyed spending time with his friends and family.
He is survived by two sons, Bryon A. Guffin and his wife, April, of Sweet Springs and Craig R. Guffin and his wife, Sue, of Sedalia; two daughters, Anna R. "Shelley" Lowry and Marla S. Helms, both of Kilgore, Texas; one brother, John Guffin and his wife, Marilyn, of Sedalia; one sister, Gale Chevalier and her husband, Jo-Dale, of Miami; his longtime companion, Virginia Faye Hughes of Sedalia, and her children, Eric Hughes and Lisa Schoen; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Robert Lawrence Guffin.
