Louis A. Thiel, 79, of Marshall, died Tuesday, May 20, 2008, at The Living Center in Marshall.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 23, 2008, at St. Peter Catholic Church, with Fr. Kevin Gormley officiating. Prayer service will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday at the church; with visitation following from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Burial with military rites will be held in Ridge Park Cemetery in Marshall. Memorials may be made to St. Peter Catholic Church or Fitzgibbon Cancer Center in care of Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home in Marshall. Friends may sign the online register book at www.campbell-lewis.com.
Born Aug. 24, 1928, in Norborne, he was the son of the late Leo Thiel and Katherine Pfister Thiel. On June 18, 1960, he married Patricia Ann Taylor, who preceded him in death on March 28, 2006. He had lived in Saline County most of his life and was a farmer. He was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church, Malta Bend American Legion Post 558 and had served on the board at Community Bank of Marshall. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean conflict.
Survivors include one son, Bryan Thiel and his wife, Terri, of Marshall; three grandsons, Brandon, Austin and Alex Thiel; three step-grandchildren, Cory, Cayle and Kelley Sanders; one sister, Loretta Schieszer and her husband, Pete, of Blue Springs; two brothers, Donald J. Thiel and his wife, Barbara, of rural Malta Bend and John Thiel and his wife, Catherine, of Kansas City; one brother-in-law, George Rankin and his wife, Beth, of Overland Park, Kan.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and two brothers, Leo Thiel Jr. and George Thiel.
