According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol accident report, a 2008 Ford, driven by Ashley P. Mathis, 20, of Carrollton, was traveling westbound on U.S. Highway 24 at about 8:25 a.m. when the accident occurred at County Road 287.
The vehicle went off the left side of the roadway, overturned and struck a utility pole coming to rest on its wheels, police said.
Carroll County Coroner Steven Bittiker pronounced 20-year-old Jacob Forbes of Alma, passenger in the vehicle, dead at the scene at 10:30 a.m. and he was taken to Gibson Funeral Home in Carrollton.
Mathis received moderate injuries and passenger Kyle D. Wilson, 20, of Carrollton also received moderate injuries. Both were transported to Carroll County Memorial Hospital by ambulance, the report said.
All parties were wearing their safety belts. The Ford was declared totaled and towed from the scene, police said.
According to MSHP, the investigation continues. MSHP Troop A has investigated 26 fatality accidents resulting in 29 deaths in 2008 so far.
