Park Director Jeff Stubblefield said one of the computers the park uses has permanently quit. This computer was the one Lori Godsey, aquatics manager and program coordinator, used daily.
Stubblefield said he checked the other two computers used by Administrative Assistant Mary Perkins and Golf Operations Manager Dale McDaniel and they are both running Windows 98.
"So these two computers are about 10 years old," Stubblefield said. He wants to get the new computers in the near future.
"Mary's got everything on it," he said. "I want to get two computers, for sure, before (all the information) goes."
Stubblefield said he would like to get a laptop for Godsey. "Lori is on the go all the time."
"Anymore it is hard to do business without computers," said Jess Young, board member.
The board approved purchasing two desktop and one laptop computers, instead of just two desktops that Stubblefield was originally asking to purchase.
Stubblefield said that the park received a small donation from Matt Leimkuehler. The park allowed him to use a shelter house for free to hold a small "Battle of the Bands" for a fundraiser to help a friend.
"It is refreshing to see young kids give back to the community," he said.
Osage Field's scoreboard is up. The other three are waiting for weather to allow vehicles to get where they need to be without making deep ruts into the ball fields. Osage's board is the biggest board of the four scoreboards to be mounted. He said the board should be hooked up and ready for the first game.
In other business, Stubblefield handed out the revised master plan for the park.
"Take it home, chew on it and see if there's anything we need to do," he said. He plans to meet at least one more time, prior to approving the master plan at the July meeting. Stubblefield added a summary, a park condition analysis and an inventory list on facilitates.
Young said he and Jack Harvey and Leo Grothaus and himself were at the last meeting for the master plan and went through it very carefully.
"It was plain to us," he said. "It's fantastic."
Godsey said the pool lacks about one inch to being completely full.
"We have no leaks," she said very excitedly. "When we hit the water pumps to turn on, everything worked properly."
The park has hired Roger Choate to help out at Marshall Aquatics Center. He has been a "very good asset for pool," Godsey said. She said he has been working on and fixing areas that have been "neglected."
Godsey has also been overseeing the grill at the golf house.
Stubblefield said when the golf house was built six years ago a big kitchen was incorporated and "it has never been utilized."
Godsey said they have served over 200 tenderloins to the community, not only golfers.
She said they are looking for a "catchy" name for it. One suggestion is "The Sand Trap." Retired school cooks and other helpers, according to Stubblefield, are running the concessions.
"We are trying to expand our operations at the golf house," he said, and it also helps with generating revenue.
The park will have a summer intern, Mike Tachell, who will help supervise baseball, plan programs and spend a few days with Golf Greens Superintendent George McComas.
Also, Jared Kelly will be doing his Eagle Scout project at the park. According to Stubblefield, he will be helping with trails back in the woods and the disc golf course.
The next regular board meeting will be Wednesday, June 4, at 5:30 p.m. in the park's administrative offices.
