SWEET SPRINGS -- Sweet Springs seniors James DeWeese and Chris Dickinson recently signed NAIA letters of intent to play football at Missouri Valley College.
DeWeese was a four-year starter for the Greyhounds, making the all-I-70 Conference team each season -- including a first-team selection at both running back and linebacker in 2007. DeWeese ran for 753 yards and 12 touchdowns, while also making 113 tackles, during his final campaign.
Dickinson led Sweet Springs with 115 tackles and had a pair of interceptions and was a second-team all-conference pick at both defensive back and quarterback -- where he rushed for 672 yards and seven touchdowns and passed for 530 yards and four TDs in the 'Hounds' run-oriented spread-option offense.
They are joining a Vikings program which has reached the NAIA Championship Series semifinals the last seasons, both times stopped at Sioux Falls (S.D.).
Taking part in the signing ceremony were (from left) mother Robin DeWeese, DeWesse, MVC assistant coach Barry Rave, Dickinson and parents Rick and Joy Dickinson.
