Sophomore Ralph Marguery of suburban Paris, France, shot a four-over-par 220 over three rounds at Paradise Pointe Golf Course to win the regional meet, thus becoming the first Viking to quality for the NAIA Championships.
Unranked William Woods upset No. 8 Lindenwood for the team title, 908 to 909 points, with Valley tallying 919. The Lions, who won their eighth straight Heart of America Conference Tournament title, received an at-large bid to advance to nationals for the 10th season in a row.
Marguery, second at the conference meet -- also at Paradise Pointe -- is among four individuals that weren't members of the 28 qualifying teams to make the field. He will tee off Tuesday at Indiana National Country Club in Plymouth.
