3 Waverly men receive injuries in Thursday morning accident

Thursday, May 1, 2008

A two-car accident south of Waverly Thursday morning, May 1, left two Waverly teenagers with minor injuries and a 50-year-old Waverly man with serious injuries, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

The accident occurred at 7:38 a.m. on Missouri Highway 23, about one-quarter mile north of Centerview Road.

Michael K. Kuhler, 53, was traveling northbound in a 2002 Mercury Cougar when he crossed the centerline into the path of a southbound 2000 Chevrolet Cavalier, according to police.

Jacob D. Hostetter, 16, was driving the Cavalier, which was struck in the left front side by the Cougar.

Kuhler received serious injuries and was transported by air ambulance to Centerpoint Hospital in Independence. Police reported he was not wearing a safety belt.

Hostetter was wearing his safety belt and received minor injuries.

Justus A. Hostetter, 17, a passenger in the Cavalier, received minor injuries and was wearing his safety belt, too, according to the report.

Troopers reported that Jacob and Justus Hostetter would seek treatment on their own.

Both vehicles were declared totaled by MSHP and towed from the scene.

Kuhler was issued summonses for careless and imprudent driving and no seatbelt, according to the report.
